Mohamed Salah was delighted to reach 50 Premier League goals in Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday - but is already eyeing up reaching the same landmark exclusively for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
With the Reds trailing at the break after an underwhelming first-half display, the Egyptian netted the equaliser within seconds of the restart before pouncing on a Julian Speroni howler to score his second of the day - and arguably the easiest goal of his Liverpool career.
The 26-year-old’s brace took him two goals clear at the top of the top-flight goalscoring charts as he became the fourth-fastest player to reach a half-century of Premier League goals.
While pleased to have reached the landmark, Salah was quick to point out two of his goals had been for Chelsea before showcasing his dedication to Liverpool by turning his attentions to scoring his next two goals for the Reds.
“I feel great. I’m now looking forward to scoring 50 for Liverpool because I scored two for Chelsea,” he said after the game. “I’m happy with it and looking forward to the next game.
“We expected the game to be very difficult. They played well in both the first half and second half.
“It was a tough game but the most important thing for us is the result and we got the result."
Victory saw the Reds extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points. However, their performance was far from perfect having trailed at half-time and conceding three goals for the first time in the league in a year.
While disappointed at conceding three goals, Salah revealed what was said at half-time for Liverpool to turn the game on its head before insisting their victory was well-deserved.
“Yes we conceded three goals and it’s hard a little bit but we have to accept it as soon as possible and live with that,” he said.
“We talked to each other and said we have to be strong mentally because it was a tough time.
“It was the most important time for us because when you are struggling, you have to be strong mentally.
“We scored the goal and got momentum, we played well and we deserved to win the game.”
