Liverpool have benefitted most from VAR while Leeds have lost the most points

Liverpool have benefited more than any other Premier League team from VAR decisions this season, it has been revealed.

The Reds have been given six extra points thanks to interventions in the 2022-23 campaign and would be sitting six points off the bottom three without them.

Jurgen Klopp's men are already struggling as it is this season - languishing in ninth place and ten points off fourth-placed Manchester United, but a table without VAR shows their fortunes would be even worse off had key decisions not gone their way.

The Reds were relieved to see Conor Coady's late strike against them in the Merseyside Derby ruled out by VAR in September, which would have been the winner before the 0-0 draw.

Liverpool drew 3-3 against Brighton in October after technology awarded Mohamed Salah's goal to help them pull a goal back against the Seagulls at a crucial time.

They also beat Man City 1-0 weeks later after Phil Foden earlier had a goal ruled out by VAR with the scores at 0-0.

The altered table is calculated by taking the first VAR overturn in each game - working on the theory that any subsequent incident would not have occured - while also taking in factors such as XG at the time of the incident and team form - as reported by ESPN.

Aston Villa were the second biggest beneficiaries of VAR with four extra points, while Brentford, Crystal Palace and Man United all have three extra points thanks to decisions.

Without those additional points, Man United would drop out of the top four - into fifth - while Tottenham would move into third with two extra points.

The biggest losers this season from VAR decisions are Leeds United - who would be five points better off had the technology not been in place. That would bump them up three places into 12th, putting them six points above the relegation zone.

Jesse Marsch's men are currently 15th on 18 points - just one above 18th placed Bournemouth.

Following Leeds with the most points lost through VAR decisions are Manchester City, who would be three points better off - though that would still leave them behind league leaders Arsenal.

However, it would mean that the gap between the two teams is reduced from five to three. The Gunners are just one point better off with VAR in place.

West Ham would also have three points more without VAR, while Brighton and struggling Everton would have two additional points.
