Liverpool has commenced the installation of rail seats in the Kop end as part of a season-long trial at Anfield.

The Reds announced in June that the first stages of the installation of the rail seats had been completed ahead of Jurgen Klopp's side's pre-season games against Athletic Club and Osasuna on Sunday and Monday respectively.

Further work, which will see seats converted to seating with safety rails, is due to be completed in time for Liverpool's first home game of the season, when they face Burnley in the Premier League on August 21.

A total sum of 7,800 seats will be installed for the trial, 1,800 of which will be situated in the famous Kop end, while 6,000 will be in the Anfield Road stand lower.

Liverpool's trial follows the likes of Manchester United and Celtic, with the British giants also having designated areas in their respective arenas to cater for safe standing.

Two areas of Anfield have been identified as having issues with persistent standing, a safety review by the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) found.

Wolverhampton Wanders have also incorporated hybrid seating models and it is expected that more Premier League sides will follow suit in the future.

Liverpool begin their top flight campaign against Premier League newcomers Norwich City at Carrow Road on August 14, as Klopp looks to wrestle the English crown off Manchester City this time around.

Pep Guardiola's side stormed to the title last campaign, with a series of critical injuries rocking the Reds. With a squad returning to a full bill of health, Klopp will be hoping to improve on last season's third-place finish.
