Liverpool leading the race to sign Rennes’ Jérémy Jacquet

Liverpool have reportedly stolen a march on Chelsea in the race to sign Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (20), according to a report from Foot Mercato. Talks are understood to be underway between Liverpool and Rennes over finding an agreement in the next hours. The outlet adds that Jérémy Jacquet has agreed to make the switch to Merseyside.

Jacquet is reportedly valued at €65m by his formative Rennes side. The highly-rated France U21 international centre-back was previously expected to leave Rennes in the summer. But Liverpool’s interest might have changed the situation. The report adds that Liverpool side want to bolster Arne Slot’s side with a young and promising centre-back who could fill right into the team.

Foot Mercato understands that the Reds are now firmly leading the race to land Jacquet as Liverpool were determined to not let this opportunity slip away.
