Liverpool reach agreement over Klopp's former assistant Zeljko Buvac departure

Jurgen Klopp's former assistant Zeljko Buvac has officially left his post at Liverpool.

Buvac had not been at the club since departing last April shortly before the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Roma due to 'personal reasons'.

Klopp has refused to discuss the reason behind Buvac's exit although it is understood the Bosnian-Serb had become increasingly distant in the weeks prior to his exit.

Now, after a lengthy period during which he remained a Liverpool employee, the 57-year-old's contract has finally been settled, making his exit official.

Buvac, who Klopp once termed 'The Brain' of his coaching set-up, had a 17-year working relationship with the Reds boss and followed him to Anfield in October 2015.

Klopp moved to fill the breach last summer by bringing back Pep Ljinders after the Dutchman, a previous member of the Liverpool backroom staff, had a brief spell in charge of NEC Nijmegen.

Ljinders, a popular figure at Melwood, is highly regarded at Liverpool and is now expected to officially become assistant manager alongside long-time Klopp ally Peter Krawietz.
