Liverpool striker Alexander Isak was back training with his teammates on the eve of the Reds' crucial Champions League quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain

Alexander Isak was spotted training alongside the Liverpool squad on Tuesday ahead of the club's flight to Paris for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final showdown against PSG.

The striker had returned to group training on Thursday before the FA Cup clash at Manchester City, but Reds manager Arne Slot chose to leave him out of the matchday squad for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking prior to the game, Slot explained: "I was hoping the same [that Isak would be among the substitutes on Saturday], but you always do these things in co-operation with medical staff, performance staff and the player himself.

"We came to the conclusion that it was better for him to have a few more sessions than only one or two and then immediately jump into a game like this, where if you bring him in there might be extra-time."

"The situation is now that I hope – again I hope – that he will be available for Wednesday, but today came too early for him."

Isak's presence in training would indicate he is set to be part of the travelling party heading to Paris, with Liverpool due to announce their squad for the trip later on Tuesday.

Beyond the anticipated absentees of Alisson Becker, Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni, there were no other significant injury concerns spotted during the training session.

Alisson has revealed he anticipates making his comeback from a hamstring injury towards the end of April, while Endo, Leoni and Bradley continue to be sidelined with long-term issues.

Liverpool travel to the Parc des Princes on the back of Saturday's humiliating 4-0 FA Cup thrashing at the hands of Manchester City, with pressure mounting on beleaguered manager Slot.
