Liverpool set for Champions League boost as PSG to be denied repeat of Chelsea advantage

Paris Saint-Germain had the weekend off before their Champions League last-16 second leg at Chelsea, but they're unlikely to get the same privilege in between their clashes with Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain are set to have to play a potential title decider in between their Champions League quarter-final fixtures against Liverpool. The French giants were granted a postponement for their Ligue 1 clash with Nantes last weekend, allowing them to have seven days off between their games against Chelsea in the round-of-16.

Postponements which help French teams' European campaigns have become commonplace in recent years, with PSG winning the Champions League last season. But their trip to Lens, who are one point behind them in the Ligue 1 table, is expected to go ahead as scheduled on Saturday, April 11.

Lens manager Peter Sage ruled out a postponement - which PSG are yet to request - last week. "It's too late since the match is already scheduled, whereas the Nantes match wasn't," Sage explained. "I think PSG doesn't need that to be competitive against us."

Three days before taking on Lens, PSG host Liverpool for the first leg. Then on Wednesday, April 14, Luis Enrique's side travel to Anfield for the return fixture.

PSG and Liverpool are preparing to renew their rivalry after meeting in last season's Champions League. The Parisians beat Arne Slot's men on penalties in the round-of-16 before going all the way and getting their hands on the European Cup for the first time in their history.

Slot told TNT Sports: "Last season against PSG we were completely outplayed away from home, we played a great game at Anfield but lost on penalties. To be fair, they haven't dropped their standards.

"It was hardly possible for them to improve but they've been very impressive until now. I don't think they will be that happy to play for us after seeing our performance tonight, and last season we were the only team who took them to extra-time and penalties."

After PSG dispatched Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate, Liverpool had more trouble against Galatasaray. However, the Reds ran out winners by an aggregate score of 4-1 and Slot was delighted.

"I liked almost every single minute," the Liverpool manager hailed. "I liked the way we played, the way we pressed, the reaction of the fans when Galatasaray were doing what I expected them to do. They were on the floor, waving, trying to kill our momentum, but the fans reacted straight away and so did our players.
