Liverpool squad numbers available if Timo Werner or summer signings arrive

Liverpool's transfer business this summer remains uncertain in the light if the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Timo Werner continues to be the main name linked with a potential move to Anfield.

Unsurprisingly, Reds fans are excited about the possibility of the German partnering up with their already ruthless attacking players.

The 24-year-old striker has scored 21 goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances this season for RB Leipzig.

Klopp already has Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi to choose from to play in the front three.

But with an exit on the cards for Shaqiri and the rumours over Werner, there could be changes in the dressing room when the window does open.

But which squad numbers are available if Liverpool did make a move and bring any fresh faces in?

Since signing for Leipzig in 2016, Werner has worn the number 11, but of course that number is taken at Liverpool.

Salah wears that number, which used to belong to Firmino before the Egyptian was signed from Roma.

The next obvious option for a striker would be the number nine shirt – but that is the number that Firmino opted for after Salah took the 11.

Number 10 is also a commonly-used shirt number by strikers and attackers, but that belongs to Mané, who changed from number 19 at the start of the 18/19 campaign.

During his days with German side VfB Stuttgart, coming through the academy there, Werner could be found sporting the number nine, 11 and 14.

The number 14 is of course taken by captain Jordan Henderson at the moment in the Liverpool squad.

But there are several numbers that are currently free...

The number 16 is not currently being used among the Liverpool squad, as it belongs to Marko Grujic, who has spent the last few seasons out on loan, and could potentially be a viable option for anyone was to join - depending on the situation with Grujic himself.

One that is free at present for any new arrivals.

Mané's old shirt number – 19 – has not been used since the Senegalese winger dropped it in 2018 and that could also be an option.

Adam Lallana sees his contract expire at the end of the season and has been heavily rumoured with a move away from Merseyside. Lallana currently occupies the number 20 shirt at Anfield, meaning that could become available.

When Daniel Sturridge left the club at the start of the 2019/20 season, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain took his number 15 shirt, meaning 21 is now vacant.

Shaqiri has also been linked with a move away from the club, and he wears 23 – previously worn by Emre Can and Jamie Carragher.

Another that is going spare at the moment.

Number 25 has not been used since Pepe Reina left Liverpool in 2014 and players who are superstitious often use numbers that add up to a specific number – in this case – two and five makes seven.

No. 28, 29, 30

Also, number 28, 29 and 30 are all free to the right player, with Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke and Suso being the last players to wear those numbers for Liverpool, respectively.
