One Spanish newspaper has moved to hand one Liverpool star a zero player rating following the Reds’ clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Liverpool see off Atletico Madrid

Liverpool and Atletico Madrid went head-to-head in a Champions League group stage tie on Tuesday.

The tie was perhaps the most entertaining affair of the evening, with Liverpool eventually coming out on top in the game.

The away outfit did take an early two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita.

But just as it looked as though Liverpool would run away with the game, Antoine Griezmann netted in the 20th and 34th minute to make it 2-2 heading into the break.

The match was then turned on its head shortly into the second half when Griezmann was shown a straight red card.

Liverpool star handed zero player rating

Liverpool go on to eventually pick up the win after Mario Hermoso gave away a penalty, which Salah stepped up to convert.

Now, as mentioned above, despite coming away with a win at the Wanda Metropolitano, one Liverpool player was given a zero rating by a Spanish newspaper for his display in Madrid.

As per Sport Witness, AS handed out two zero ratings for the game. One to Mario Hermoso, which makes sense as his side conceded three, they lost and Hermoso was the one who gave away the clumsy penalty.

The other zero rating, though, was somewhat bizarrely handed to Virgil van Dijk. It was not VVD’s best display in a Liverpool shirt, but a zero rating seems pretty harsh.
