Liverpool target Ryan Gravenberch has admitted he may be forced to leave Bayern Munich in search of regular game time following a 'difficult' first season with the German champions.

The Dutch midfielder joined the Bundesliga giants in a £21million move from Ajax last summer.

Gravenberch had been hailed as 'one of the biggest talents in Europe' by Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, after the the club fought off competition from Manchester United for his signature.

The 21-year-old made 33 appearances in all competitions in his debut season at Bayern, but only six came as starts.

Gravenberch was asked by ESPN whether he was disappointed by his lack of game time at Bayern, with the midfielder admitting he may look to leave should he remain out of favour.

'To be honest, yes I am,' Gravenberch said. 'I expected to play more minutes than I did.

'I thought I would get some more chances. It's about just wanting to play, that's the most important thing at my age.

'I hope it'll be at Bayern - otherwise, we'll just have to look further.

'I want to play, but the manager is picking other players. I have to accept it, but it's difficult.

'I was hoping for more minutes but I have to stay calm. I told everyone that I don't want another year like that. Of course you can't always be in the starting XI, but you can still play regularly - you can get a lot of minutes.'

Gravenberch has reportedly been targeted by Liverpool this summer as Jurgen Klopp seeks to rebuild his midfielder.

The Reds have already secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister in a cut-price £35m deal from Brighton.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer has insisted the Gravenberch will get an opportunity next season, as he sought to quieten speculation around the midfielder's future.

'In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player,' he told Bild. 'That's why we brought him.

'He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I'm sure he'll get more playing time in the future.'

Any developments on Gravenberch's future are likely to come after the Netherlands' U-21 European Championships campaign.

The Dutch side began their campaign with a goalless draw against Belgium on Wednesday.
