Liverpool ended 2023 top of the Premier League and made an excellent start to 2024 as they beat Newcastle 4-2 on New Year's Day.

And manager Jurgen Klopp may have to dip into this transfer market this month, with Liverpool set to lose Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo to the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup respectively.

The Reds are also dealing with some injury problems, with the likes of Andy Robertson, Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Kostas Tsimikas and Stefan Bajcetic currently out of action. With that in mind, Mirror Football brings you all the latest transfer news from Anfield.

Sane boost

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane and German outlet BILD are now reporting that the winger is now stalling over a new contract.

Sane's current deal with the Bundesliga giants is due to expire in 18 months time and they are keen to get him to sign an extension. However, the report states that Sane wants to wait until after Euro 2024 to make a decision on his future.

It notes that an impressive display at the Euros will 'attract interested parties' and make a contract extension more expensive for Bayern.

Carragher identifies top target

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged his former club to sign a new defender this month if they want to keep up their title challenge.

"I do feel Liverpool have to bring a defender to the club in January. Liverpool have got something Arsenal haven’t got which is a manager who has won the title before. And players within that squad who are genuinely world class player."

Williams recalled

Rhys Williams has become the latest Liverpool player to have been recalled early from a loan spell after Fabio Carvalho and Owen Beck.

The 22-year-old defender made 19 first-team appearances for Liverpool during the 2020-21 campaign and has since spent time out on loan in the Championship with Swansea City and Blackpool. This season, however, he was sent on loan to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen but did not make a single appearance.

"We thank Rhys for all his efforts and wish him the very best in his future career," a statement from Aberdeen read. "We would also like to acknowledge Liverpool for their co-operation and professionalism throughout."
