Liverpool's summer business is picking up and not a moment too soon.
With just over a week until the Reds face Ipswich Town in their first Premier League game of the season, they are still yet to make a signing. While boss Arne Slot has insisted he is happy with his squad, new recruits are needed.
The No.6 position appears to be the spot Slot believes needs reinforcements having struggled to find a consistent option in that area. To that end, Martin Zubimendi has emerged as a top target for the Reds.
That news comes as Slot was urged to make another push to sign Anthony Gordon and Luis Diaz's future at Anfield became clear. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool transfer news.
Zubimendi move launched
Liverpool have launched a move for Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi. The Reds are looking to boost their midfield options, with the Spanish international now emerging as their top target.
According to The Athletic, the pursuit is complicated by his £51.7m release clause needing to be paid in full. The 25-year-old would also need to be convinced to leave San Sebastian, which a number of suitors have failed to do.
Zubimendi served as the understudy to Rodri during Euro 2024, before replacing him at half-time of the final. Sociedad will not be keen to see him leave, having already allowed Robin Le Normand to join Atletico Madrid and with Mikel Merino closing in on a move to Arsenal.
Carragher urges Gordon move
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged his former club to make another move to sign Anthony Gordon. The Reds abandoned their pursuit of the Newcastle star earlier this summer, but Carragher believes their interest should be resurrected.
“I think it would be a good signing for Liverpool, I’m a big fan,” said Carragher. “I can’t believe he didn’t get more opportunities for England. He’s got blistering pace that leaves defenders for dead and not many players worldwide have that.
“I’m a big fan but I’m sure so many people are at other clubs as well, he’s at a top club in Newcastle but there’s been a lot of talk about whether he was offered to Liverpool. I do feel Liverpool still haven’t replaced the pace they had in the attack when they had Sadio Mane and they need to replace that.”
Diaz future confirmed
Luis Diaz looks set to stay at Liverpool after Barcelona opted to pursue a move for Dani Olmo instead. The La Liga giants have agreed a £48million deal with RB Leipzig for the Spain international.
That would appear to put an end to their interest in Diaz, having been heavily linked with the Colombian earlier this summer. Diaz still has three years to run on his contract at Anfield and is no longer seen as a priority target by Barca.
The confirmation the 27-year-old will be remaining on Merseyside will serve as a major boost to boss Slot. With Diaz staying, it could mean the Dutchman will sanction the sale of Fabio Carvalho.
