Liverpool weighing up whether to expand Anfield Road End

Liverpool are considering whether their plans to expand the Anfield Road End of their stadium are still feasible.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed earlier this year that the club were looking to expand Anfield to accommodate over 60,000 seats.

They have until only next September to submit detailed plans for the next phase of the development, but the club's top brass are now considering whether the plans need to be reworked.

'We are looking at a range of options to ensure we have considered all aspects before making any decision,' Liverpool CEO Peter Moore told the Liverpool Echo.

'These include working up design, feasibility, cost, capacity and economic viability options.

'After that work is completed, and if there is a smarter design option that does not fit with the current outline planning permission, then we would submit another planning application.

'Only once we have completed this comprehensive process and come to a conclusion will it be the right time to move forward.'

The club redeveloped the Main Stand just over two years ago, which has triggered a staggering rise in matchday income of £12million.

That expansion increased capacity by 8,500 seats to take it up to 54,074 and the plans for the Anfield Road End extension will look to add at least 6,000.
