The Champions League draw takes place at 00:00 CET on Friday. Liverpool released a statement in advance, informing fans that if the English club were drawn against Real Madrid, the match would have to be played at the Santiago Bernabéu.
UEFA has a rule prohibiting the same fixture between two teams from being hosted by the same venue for three consecutive seasons. Liverpool beat Real Madrid 2-0 at home in 2024 and won 1-0 at home again in 2025. According to Article 16.03 of the current Champions League regulations, Liverpool cannot host this fixture again: "In the same competition, the same match between two identical teams shall not be hosted by the same team for three consecutive seasons."
This rule does not prevent the two teams from facing each other again; Liverpool simply cannot play at home. Therefore, if the draw pairs these teams together, the match must be played at Real Madrid's home ground.
