Liverpool's hero ball boy against Barca scores first goal for club in U18 win

The sharp-thinking ball boy who helped Liverpool score their fourth goal in the remarkable comeback win over Barcelona has now scored his first goal for the club.

Liverpool's plan to overturn a three-goal deficit against Barcelona was so meticulous that the ball boys were given a video presentation on how they could help Jurgen Klopp's team and it paid off.

Oakley Cannonier, 14, who plays for one of the club's youth teams, threw a replacement ball he was already holding straight to Trent Alexander-Arnold to allow him to take the quick corner that enabled Divock Origi to score and wrap up the victory.

The win saw Liverpool book their place in the Champions League final, which they went on to win 2-0 against Tottenham.

Oakley gained instant hero status for his part in the famous fightback and is now well on his way to becoming a legend for the club on the pitch.

The U16s player has notched his first goal for the club by netting the opener for Liverpool U18s as they won their first pre-season friendly game against Burton Albion 4-0 at the Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

Jake Cain made it 2-0 with a superb free-kick, Niall Brookwell added the third in an excellent team move before Cain completed the rout with another brilliant low-drilled free-kick.

Manager Barry Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com: 'It was good to give the boys their first minutes of pre-season and it was a pleasing performance.

'Jake scored two great free-kicks and he and Leighton Clarkson are capable of doing that for us.

'We had a lot of first-year scholars and it was good to give them a first experience at U18 level.'
