Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has expressed his frustration after his late mistake led to Liverpool securing a 2-1 victory at Anfield.
Lloris' side looked set to secure a point against the title challengers, but Lloris failed to hold Mohamed Salah's cross and Toby Alderweireld inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Lloris said: 'I don't really know what happened. I tried to catch the ball twice but unfortunately there was no bounce and it bounced straight on the shin of Toby (Alderweireld).
'What happened, happened. A bit of the luck was on the opponents' side. It is tough. We gave so much to come back in the game and had chances to score the second goal.
'It is sad for us. When you are a goalkeeper you know the responsibility. Of course you question yourself. The good thing is that you know there is another game in three days, so you need to switch off about [Liverpool] and prepare the next game. I think it's the best way to forget.'
The result leaves Tottenham in third place, although Arsenal, who are currently fifth, can overtake their north London rivals with a victory over Newcastle on Monday.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has urged his side to forget the disappointment against Liverpool and focus on what lies ahead.
On Wednesday Tottenham open their new stadium against Crystal Palace, and Pochettino hopes the ground will provide his side with a boost.
'We were talking a lot that we are in the top four, we are in quarter-final of the Champions League and we have seven games in the Premier League,' said Pochettino. 'We need to forget everything and focus ahead.
'We have a mini-league that starts on Wednesday in our new stadium (against Crystal Palace) that must be a big boost for everyone and it is in our own hands to be in the top four. It is not to justify the defeat or an excuse, it's just with all the circumstances that arrive.'
Tottenham's recent form in the Premier League has been hugely concerning, with Pochettino's team having lost four of their last five games.
If they are to secure a top four finish then Tottenham will surely not be able to afford many more slip-ups before the conclusion of the campaign.

Now we see Karius effect touring places. Turkey to England, to Italy, Italy back to England. First it was De Gea against Arsenal, second Donnarumma against Sampdoria and now Lloris against Liverpool. I wonder who's gonna be next?

honestly feel bad for yah. it can be frustrating as a keeper when the ball behaves in a way we don't expect.

Alderweireld mistakenly scored an own goal as a result of the pressures mounted by the rampaging title chasing Liverpool. It's no fault of the keeper either. I wish he's able to save the mess. Anyways, it has happened and Lloris has apologised. Going forward, they need to be more careful as the race for the top 4 gets hotter amongst Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea.
