Jose Mourinho held an emotional 'last supper' – albeit at lunchtime – amid tearful scenes and hugs at the Lowry Hotel.
Fresh from his sacking, the former Manchester United boss drove to the iconic city centre landmark he had called home for close to 900 days to pick up his belongings and settle his account.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, told Sportsmail that Mourinho had a final meal at lunchtime in the bar of the hotel when he returned from Carrington, to end a stay lasting two years and five months.
They added: 'It looked like he was doing his paperwork, having a snack and saying his goodbyes.
'He made a point of seeking some people out and it looked like he was in good spirits.
'A lot of the staff appeared to be upset and a couple went in for a hug.'
Mourinho is understood to have settled his room service charges on a weekly basis during his lengthy stay in one of the upmarket hotel's six, plush Riverside Suites.
After United picked up the tab for his first few months, the Portuguese negotiated his own special rate and became well known to staff, many of whom were said to be 'heartbroken' at news of his sacking.
There are also set to be sad faces at Brazilian restaurant Bem Brasil and at Juan Mata's nearby Spanish eaterie Tapeo. Mourinho was a fan of both and would head there on rare jaunts into the city centre itself.

Mourinho, you're a great name in football, it's sad seeing you being sacked, but, as a Germany fan, and I don't wanna sound very rude here, the way you treated Bastian Schweinsteiger!!! that's what you get now.. you keep "fighting" with your players, I guess the club and the players will win eventually.

IAM 100% sure mourinho feels so happy now he gets tired to see every day Pogba with new hair color and hair cut + to see Sanchez falling down from every move he makes and finally to see his defense scoring own goals hahaha he can sleep well and his nightmares is over

everyone knows Jose is a gentleman a principles man but there times doesn't suit him, he is like road kill to the current generation, they slow down traffic, rubber neck, pose, take a selfie, hit send to social media hot spot, then hammer down 200 mph.. maybe that was a little harsh, but you get my drift, flower child meets bumblebee. anyways the man lived in a hotel he subconsciously knew he wasn't staying. where was his family, what we are probably seeing is a man in mid life crisis. no wonder he will be missed, he was probably a good tipper too. good luck s sincerely Mr Mourhinho. he was probably right character wise about some of his star players. i foresee a best seller [Camera]

Well it seems every good thing must come to an end, maybe our next manager might like eating there too
