Lukaku: France didn't deserve to reach World Cup final

It's still a pain in the neck for Romelu Lukaku to lose to France in the World Cup, who "didn't deserve to reach the final" in his opinion.

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku admits Belgium's World Cup semi-final defeat to France still burns.

Lukaku has no doubt they blew a great chance of being world champions last summer.

"In my opinion, we should have played the game with our usual 3-4-3 system. We did not have room in the system that we played at that time. The final whistle was terrible. We lost the game of our lives against a team that did not really deserve to move on to the final," said the 25-year-old to RTBF.

"Yes, they became world champions, congratulations, but actually it should have been our moment to play the final for this generation."

"I was one of the best forwards in the tournament, that's for sure. The game against France was the only one in which I could have done better."

The Belgium striker also talked about their victory over Brazil in the quarter-final.

"It was when Ronaldo scored in the 2002 World Cup final against Germany that I decided to become a professional football player."

"Before the game, everyone thought we would go home but we proved them wrong. We respect our opponents but there are players who do not fear anything in our locker room."

"They have Thiago Silva, but we have Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen, as well as Eden Hazard and me on the frontline."

"We have our great players. I told my teammate we would beat them and we did it."
