Lukaku will NOT make snap decision over Chelsea future after being dropped

Romelu Lukaku is not making any snap decisions over his long-term future at Chelsea following his latest setback since returning to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium striker, who was dropped for Tuesday night’s game against Lille, is said to be relaxed about his long-term future at Stamford Bridge following a turbulent start to the calendar year at the west London club.

Lukaku’s future is under growing speculation, but it is understood the 28-year-old - who was fined and dropped for his now infamous Sky Italia interview earlier this year - is not making any reactionary decisions over his future with still three months to run until the end of the season.

However, there is emerging uncertainty over the £97.5million man’s position in Tuchel’s first-team plans moving forward.

Tuchel insisted his decision to axe Lukaku, who had just seven touches of the ball against Crystal Palace on Sunday, was down to fatigue - though the striker himself is said to believe he was fit enough to play against Lille.

However, Sportsmail understands that Tuchel feels that his team functions better when Kai Havertz is leading the line.

Havertz was impressive in the centre-forward role in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Lille, scoring the opener for his team.

But his presence as the focal-point of Chelsea’s attack made for a significantly more fluid team performance.

The team’s improved display leaves Tuchel facing a huge selection dilemma ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final versus Liverpool - particularly with the return to fitness of Mason Mount.

All eyes will be on whether Lukaku returns to the starting XI for the Wembley showdown - but his selection is far from certain.
