Had Roberto Firmino accidentally handled the ball in the build-up, Mohamed Salah's goal would have stood.
But what VAR Jonathan Moss suggested to referee Martin Atkinson was that the handball was deliberate.
He sees how Firmino moves his arm towards the ball while he is wrestling with Eric Dier and it keeps it under control, before Liverpool go on to score.
Atkinson checks his pitch-side monitor and concurs, chalking it off. It comes after a change from IFAB that a handball in the immediate build-up to a goal, accidental or not, would be disallowed.
However, a handball in the build-up to a goal would not be reviewed unless it was deliberate. This fell into the category of deliberate.
Overall VAR was used well in this game, from Son's Heung-min ruled-out opener to this disallowed goal for Firmino's handball.

The ball touched Tottenham’s player first, the VAR repeated it many times & I can’t believe the referee overlooked it, besides Firmino touched it unintentionally from very short distance !

Yes Liverpool won but what i don't understand is the handball call. Someone with his back facing a player and also being grabbed like a thief caught in the more. The referee if disallowing this goal should have awarded a free kick for Liverpool instead of awarding that for the opponent. Liverpool need to put it in mind that the referees aren't going to favour them. There have been so many incidence where referees try to cheat. Their aim is to try and help man united rise again but until they are impartial to all the clubs man united will never rise.
God bless you

I've seen the player handle the ball in the build-up to a goal and that goal stood. The two I remember are Tammy's handball vs West Brom in the 3-3 thriller and the one by a West Ham player in City's 1-1 draw with West Ham. This decision is never consistent.
thanks bro.. the city game I remember.. now they say it's deliberate... can you imagine that? they must find something to say to say it's not a goal.. both wrestling for the ball..

It was not immediate build up, two three passes played afterward. Before Firminho’s handball, Eric Dier handled the ball. If it was a handball by Firminho, why free kick not given to Spurs ? Remember Manchester United goal last season against us allowed by this same referee Atkinson, scored by fouling Salah before build up ? Why it’s always Liverpool in the wrong end ?
Atkinson is a shameless old thief that's always employed to frustrate Man U rivals. At his age, truth should be his life's policy but like I said earlier, he's a shameless old goat..

You spoke the complete truth that so many try to avoid. Anytime Atkinson is the referree of a match, that old simpleton cheats against any team that is ahead of or capable of overtaking Man U. But like you said, Man U will never rise until the cheating stops...

the decision on handball was incorrect .it both touched dier and firmino together , so it was a joint error from both players . the goal should still have stood becus two of them made the mistake . is it that they didnt see dier handball too?
