TA correspondent Laurie Whitwell reports that three weeks ago, Manchester United CEO Berrada called Newcastle's senior management and largely abandoned pursuit of Hall after learning he was not for sale.
Manchester United had considered bidding around £50 million for Hall, who will turn 22 next week. At the time, Manchester United believed that moving to Old Trafford and playing in the Champions League would appeal to him.
However, about three weeks before the transfer deadline, the pursuit of Hall cooled significantly. At that time, CEO Berrada called Newcastle United CEO David Ashworth to discuss the deal directly at a senior level, and the response was that Hall was not for sale. Manchester United largely accepted this position.
After selling Anthony Gordon, Tonali, and Guimarães, and given the growing fan sentiment, Newcastle United was unwilling to let go of another key player. Moreover, at that stage of the summer window, the club had no financial need to sell. If Manchester United had made a move earlier, things might have been different, but at the time they were still weighing their midfield options.

I hope deco go for this boi in january or next summer when balde depart, cuz he’s one of the very very best left back in the world, to me he’s better than nuno mendez, his technique and dribbling ability is incomparable to that of nuno mendez, he knows how to break midfield lines with his dribbling ability more than 95% of world midfielders. He’s definitely fit barca style to the extreme level. If barca are wise they have to offload balde, kounde, araiujo, for hall, nijstad/lukeba/murillo and another good right back, all of whome will not come cheap but i believe these 3 departures can cover more than 90% of the transfer fee cuz aroujo is already price in at €55m if liverpool deal turn to be permanent, balde not less than €30-40m and kounde for €60-65m least
How did you manage to compare him to Mendes? Like seriously? 😳

I'm reading this and wondering; what's the purpose for this news? Is this just to tell us that United made attempts to sign other players or what? It's totally irrelevant. What matters are the players they were able to bring in and it's not enough. Luke Shaw was totally eaten up in the last match. Maguire ought to be on his way out to Sunderland or something... imagine how many goals United have conceded in just 2 matches. Later those nuisances who called themselves ex-United players turned pundits will put all the blame on Bruno who happens to remain the brightest light. If Carrick manages to win any trophy this season, he should be given a special award.

I wonder what united fan want.. They don’t wanna amass out yet they became angry when a left back wasn’t sign… It’s time for amass to stick the post.. We got our own HALL in amass.. Until amass experiment failed, we don’t need to hurry on what the solution seems to surface

One thing that really hurts me about united is their slow pace of negotiating transfer. They already know what the squared needs but they will delay only to find cheap and bench warmer players. The transfer window was not good at all

Wonna go give excuse until wonna tire. Waiting to see how the season goes. Any other left back would have been better than Shaw.
