MANCHESTER UNITED fear they could be without Bruno Fernandes for next month’s Manchester derby due to a hamstring injury.

Fernandes was forced off at half-time in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, having pulled up towards the end of the first half.

United manager Ruben Amorim said Fernandes has a soft tissue injury and it is believed to be a hamstring problem.

Eyewitnesses say Fernandes was limping heavily when out with friends on Monday evening.

He was pictured after dining at Turquoise Restaurant in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

Fernandes was asked whether he would be fit for the Boxing Day clash against Newcastle, to which he replied: “No”.

The 31-year-old is due to be sidelined for United’s upcoming home games against Newcastle and Wolves, the New Year trips to Leeds and Burnley, the FA Cup third round visit of Brighton and the Old Trafford derby on January 17.

United head to Arsenal on January 25, which could be the scene of Fernandes’ potential return date.

This will be Fernandes’ first prolonged period out injured for United.

He has only previously missed two games through injury in May 2024 and another due to illness in March 2022.
