Macaulay McGowan was heard asking his corner for an update on the Manchester derby score during his fight against Kieron Conway on Saturday night.
The Manchester-born super welterweight was defeated by Conway on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev.
He suffered a double hammer blow with his fight coming at the same time as Pep Guardiola's men faced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, meaning he was unable to watch the encounter.
McGowan had fallen behind in the fight at the end of round six, but struggled not to be distracted by events at Old Trafford.
His team Manchester City were looking to climb above their rivals in the Premier League table after a rather modest start to their campaign.
But he could not resist asking how events were unfolding and in footage released by Sky Sports, McGowan is heard asking his trainer: 'What's the score with City?'
He was not answered the first time, but after posing the same question again, he was then told: '0-0.'
That is how the dull affair in the Premier League clash would finish, with little being created by either side, with Guardiola's men in particular unable to turn the screw on an under-fire Solskjaer.
But in the boxing ring there was a much more appealing chain of events as McGowan was utterly dominated over ten rounds by Conway.
The Northampton-born fighter filled in for Souleymane Cissokho at the last minute and put on a stunning display to outclass his rival.
The defeat by Conway was McGowan's second defeat of his professional career, having been defeated by Tursynbay Kulakhmet last month.
The 26-year-old however does boast 14 wins and a draw as the other parts of his current return.
