Madueke reveals that the dressing room was silent after Chelsea‘s 2-2 draw

Noni Madueke has revealed that the Chelsea dressing room was 'silent' following his side's 2-2 draw away to Sheffield United.

Chelsea had taken the lead through Thiago Silva before Omar Bogle equalised for the Blades. Madueke restored the Blues' advantage but there was late frustration for Chelsea as Oli McBurnie got an equaliser for Sheffield United in stoppage time.

Madueke was adamant that Chelsea should have won the game at Bramall Lane.

He told BBC Sport: ‘Silent [in the dressing room] to be honest. Of course we should have won the game. The way we drop points sometimes, it was in the palm of our hands.'

The 22-year-old expressed hope that Chelsea, who are currently in ninth place, can finish the season strongly.

He said: ‘There are still games to go, we have to stick together and I have faith we can finish in the places we want to finish in.

'There are some positives for sure, but this is our Achilles heel, the next game after a top result – we haven’t been able to do well in that department so far.’

Meanwhile, Pochettino provided an update on Cole Palmer after he was substituted in the 74th minute.

Pochettino revealed that Palmer isn't injured, with the 21-year-old instead being withdrawn due to fatigue.

Asked if Palmer was injured, Pochettino said: ‘No, no, no. I think he was tired.

‘My feeling was he was tired. Carney [Chukwuemeka] is another number 10 who can play there and do the job.

‘We need to protect him. He got a knock against Manchester United and was a bit more tired than normal. We wanted to protect him after scoring the second goal – trying to avoid a problem in the future.’

Palmer has scored 16 goals in 26 Premier League games for Chelsea this season following his move from Manchester City.
