Man City’s Bernardo Silva: It was harder to play in France than in England

Speaking to France Football, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva (28) has said that he found it more difficult in Ligue 1 than in the Premier League.

Silva arrived at AS Monaco, initially on loan from Benfica, before making the move permanent in 2015. During his time with Les Monégasques, the Portuguese international made 147 appearances, scoring 24 goals and registering 15 assists, and notably won the title in a side that included Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé.

Whilst the Champions League still eludes Silva, the Benfica academy product has become a serial winner at the Etihad Stadium since his €50m move back in 2017. Reflecting on the level of Ligue 1 and the Premier League, Silva said that he found playing in France more difficult than in England.

“I find that it’s more difficult to play in France than in England, more physical. Maybe it’s because we have possession at Manchester City. It was difficult for me at the start. I had to get used to it,” said the Manchester City player.

A return to the French top flight may be on the cards for Silva, according to L’Équipe. Les Parisiens reportedly made a move to sign the Manchester City midfielder last summer and could return with another offer in the upcoming window. Silva is not opposed to a move away from Manchester.
