Man City Centurion records in danger of being broken by Liverpool this season

Manchester City needed a stoppage time winner against Southampton on the last day of the 2017/18 Premier League season but Gabriel Jesus' goal ensured a feat that no other side has ever managed.

The win against the Saints meant Pep Guardiola's men ended the season on 100 points, crowning them Centurions, the first English side in Premier League history to reach triple figures for points accrued.

Another league crown followed the season later but City were no longer the only dominant force in the division with Liverpool pushing them to the final day of the season only to be beaten to top spot by one point.

In the current campaign, the tables have turned with Liverpool holding a 22 point advantage over the Blues after their unbeaten start, it would take a miracle for City to overturn such a margin in the coming months.

City sent multiple records tumbling during their Centurion season and a number of them are in danger if Liverpool can continue their extraordinary form.

Jurgen Klopp has already matched a feat achieved a Guardiola's side following their victory against West Ham, becoming the fourth Premier League side in history to defeat all other 19 teams in one season.

Liverpool's draw at Old Trafford put an end to their winning streak, with Klopp's side falling one game short of City's record of 18 consecutive victories. However, the Reds haven't lost since and have already racked up 16 wins on the bounce. Victories over Norwich, West Ham and Watford in their next three fixtures will better that City achievement.

Another record that Liverpool could surpass is City's feat of 11 consecutive away victories. Klopp's men are currently riding a seven-match win streak away from home and could match the Blues if they win at the Etihad Stadium on April 4. Defeating Brighton at the Amex Stadium would see City's record broken.

As a result of reaching 100 points, City recorded the biggest title winning margin in history, finishing 19 points ahead of Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in second. Liverpool are currently 22 points ahead of City who may opt to prioritise other competitions with top spot out of sight. If both teams continue their current winning rate, City could end up 33 points adrift on their rivals.

As it stands, Guardiola's side will have to make up at least four points on the league leaders to avoid losing that record.

City's title win was also the earliest in history with the trophy secured with five games remaining. That record is in jeopardy as Liverpool can wrap up the title with seven games remaining if both sides win their next six fixtures.

The Blues rightly take great pride in the fact they were the first team in England to reach 100 points but Liverpool are on course to sail past their tally. Klopp's men currently have 73 points with 28 more up for grabs over the remainder of the season. They could reach 112 if they win every game but current form suggests they will reach 110.

City also hold the record most away points in a single season, the win against Southampton on the final day seeing them rack up 50 points away from the Etihad. On the other hand, Liverpool have 34 points away from Anfield this season and are on course to reach 53 if their current win rate continues - although they still have to travel to the Etihad.

As well as their point tally, City have the most total wins (32) and most away wins (16) in a single campaign. Again, Liverpool are set to beat both totals if their win rate continues. Klopp's men have won 24 out of 25 fixtures this season and are on course to reach 36. For away wins, they currently have 11 and are on course to reach 17.

Two City records seem out of Liverpool's grasp unless their form dramatically changes over the coming months. The Blues netted 106 goals in the 2017/18 season - the most in history. Their rivals haven't been as clinical in front of goal this season, with 60 goals to their name, City have 65 by comparison. Liverpool would need to average 3.6 goals per game for the rest of the season to become the most prolific team in Premier League history.

Finally, the Blues had the best goal difference ever recorded in 2018 (79) and drastic improvement would be needed for Liverpool to better that amount. They currently sit on 45 and would need 35 to overtake City. Liverpool are on course to achieve a goal difference of 68, falling short of City's haul.
