Manchester City have completed their fifth signing of the January transfer window, with the Premier League champions adding another defender to their ranks.

Pep Guardiola's side have strengthened heavily in the January window, notably bringing in Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush for £59 million from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Man City have also brought in £33m centre back Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens and 18-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £29.4m.

On Monday, Man City sealed the signing of another teenage defender in Juma Bah from Real Valladolid, amid claims from the LaLiga side the club had ‘supported and guided' the 18-year-old into failing to turn up to training in a bid to force the move.

City deny the allegations, while Bah had paid the £5.1m minimum release fee clause to terminate his youth contract and seal the switch, money then reimbursed by the buying club.

Bah has moved on loan to Lens until the end of the season having completed a move to Man City.

The Premier League giants pursuit of defensive additions has continued with a fifth addition of the window, with Christian McFarlane joining from New York City FC - who are part of the City Football Group.

The MLS side confirmed it has sold McFarlane to Man City and will receive a sell-on percentage if the 18-year-old is sold on in the future.

McFarlane, who was born in the UK, had joined New York City FC's academy as an 11-year-old back in 2018.

He represented every age group for the club and made his first team debut last year.

McFarlane, an England youth international, has made 13 appearances for New York City FC's first team across MLS and Leagues Cup matches.

'Making a move to Manchester City is a huge step, and I’m grateful to be part of the City Football Group,' McFarlane said.

'Having that connection is so important, and it shows young players out there that if you have the right mindset and work hard, opportunities like this are possible.

'It’s a dream come true, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.'

New York City FC stated that McFarlane had displayed 'signs of elite potential' in their academy and praised the teenager's hard work and dedication.

'We are incredibly proud to see Christian reach this incredible milestone in his career,' said David Lee, New York City FC sporting director.

'He’s a player who has come all the way through our academy system, continued his development with New York City FC II in MLS NEXT Pro, and ultimately earned his place in our first team,

'For Christian now to have the opportunity to continue his journey at Manchester City, a club at the pinnacle of world football, is a testament to his hard work, talent, and dedication.

'I can't wait to follow his career and see how well he's going to do in Manchester knowing that he'll give everything he can to reach the highest level he possibly can in football.'
