Manchester City have plenty to celebrate after sealing the first part of a historic treble by winning the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola's side still have to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final and Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
But their social media team scored a spectacular own goal with a recent post celebrating the career of Sergio Aguero.
On Tuesday, the official City account posted to say it was '2 years ago today [that Aguero] played his final game for City!' showing footage of the smiling striker bidding farewell to the Etihad Stadium crowd on May 23, 2021 after scoring two goals in a 5-0 demolition of Everton β putting the gloss on another title triumph.
But in actual fact, that was Aguero's final Premier League appearance for City, not the last in all.
His final ever game in a sky blue shirt was the 2021 Champions League final on May 29 that year, when Pep Guardiola's side were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea.
Aguero came on as a 77th minute substitute but was unable to help City turn the game around as Kai Havertz's counter-attacking goal proved decisive in Porto.
Chelsea fans were quick to point out the mistake, forcing the Man City admin to hide some of the replies.
One fan replied to the post with a picture of Aguero walking past the Champions League trophy and a caption: 'INCORRECT.'
'Am I missing something?' asked another fan.
And Melanie asked: 'Why are you hiding these replies?'
Another fan added a screengrab of a downcast Aguero after the final with the word: 'Sure?' and a fifth said: 'Yeah, he played his final game and we saw his cry in Porto''.
The tweet was later deleted.
The Argentine striker, now 34, left City at the end of the 2020/21 season, joining Barcelona on a free transfer after his contract expired.
However Aguero had to retire six months later due to health reasons, after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia.
The former Manchester City striker was taken to hospital on 30 October after experiencing 'chest discomfort' during a 1-1 draw with Alaves.
