Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne left Manchester City fans stunned after successfully fooling them into thinking they had chucked the Premier League trophy off a balcony.

Footage emerged this week showing the City duo appearing to be in shock as the trophy laid in bits on the ground.

The handful of City fans, who were invited to meet Premier League winners Aguero and De Bruyne on the roof ahead of the parade around the city centre, couldn't believe their eyes after the two seemed to accidentally lose grip of the trophy as they held it aloft for pictures.

However, the club have since released a video to reveal that it was all part of an elaborate prank.

This browser does not support the video element.

Aguero and De Bruyne would be well within their rights to lay claim for an Oscar nomination for their performances.

The two both convincingly portrayed sheepish characters after dropping the trophy with CEO Ferran Soriano also playing his part by banging on the window after witnessing the fiasco.

The City fans were left gasping in shock before the mischievous pair came clean and revealed it was just a replica trophy much to their relief.

Despite the whole prank being filmed, some insisted they didn't fall for it, although a quick look back at their reaction to the trophy falling and smashing on the ground would suggest otherwise.

It wasn't just the City fans the pair tricked into believing they had dropped the trophy with several news outlets also reporting it had been broken after the video done the rounds on social media.

But now the record has been set straight and Aguero and De Bruyne have been let off the hook.
