Man City to reignite pursuit of Gusto in January window, Chelsea demanded £70m this summer

Manchester City are trying to move past the uproar surrounding their alleged 114 breaches of Premier League financial fair play rules, but their focus extends beyond the present; they're already looking ahead to future signings.

According to English sources cited by Diario Sport, Manchester City have decided to revive their interest in Chelsea right-back Reece Gusto.

Enzo Maresca previously coached Gusto during his time at Chelsea. Although Manchester City are awaiting a ruling on potential penalties that could impact the club's finances and even prohibit them from signing new players, the club's sporting department is continuing its preparations as normal.

In this context, Manchester City are expected to complete a significant new signing in January.

British media outlet TEAMtalk claims that Manchester City will make a move for Gusto in the next winter transfer window.

Manchester City hope Chelsea will lower their asking price in January, as Chelsea's negotiating position was firmer during the previous summer transfer window.

A few months ago, Chelsea demanded €83 million (£70 million) for the 23-year-old defender.

The London club maintained the same valuation for the Olympique Lyonnais academy graduate, who has become established in the Premier League during his three seasons at Chelsea.

To put this figure in perspective, Achraf Hakimi remains the most expensive right-back to date, having joined Paris Saint-Germain for €68 million in 2020.

While reports from England suggest that Chelsea's asking price for Gusto has decreased, Manchester City's situation still raises several questions.

Manchester City may be eager to complete signings before any final penalties are officially imposed, which could also prompt other clubs to inflate player prices, knowing that Manchester City must finalize transfers quickly before any sanctions take effect.
