Manchester City are set to offer Fernandinho a one-year extension to his contract, according to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian's current contract expires at the end of the season, and City boss Pep Guardiola won't be keen on letting him go for free in the summer.

He is free to talk to other clubs this week, however is reportedly interested in seeing what City have to offer him.

The 34-year-old has been with Manchester City since 2013, so an extension would see Fernandinho stay with the club for an eighth season.

During that time, the midfielder-turned-defender has had a very successful time, so it's understandable that he wouldn't want to leave just yet.

He has made 295 appearances for the team, scoring 23 goals and providing 25 assists.

Plus, Pep Guardiola is facing a crisis in his back line, with injuries to Aymeric Laporte and John Stones sending his defence into disarray in recent times. Fernandinho has been a mainstay in the team since September as a result.

In addition, with the departure of Vincent Kompany last summer, and the impending loss of David Silva at the end of the season, Guardiola and City fans will be hoping to keep at least a few of their veteran players moving forward.

City haven't been at their best this season, and last season's champions are finding this season's title slip away from them.

They're currently in third behind Leicester, with first-placed Liverpool running away with it at the top, 14 points ahead with a game in hand.
