Manchester United's embarrassing performance against Rochdale has been made even worse as it's been revealed Manchester City's Under 21 side beat the League One side a fortnight ago.
Manchester City's Under 21 side defeated Rochdale 2-0 in the EFL Trophy on September 11 while Manchester United's first team could only muster a 1-1 draw.
Five of the players who started for Rochdale at United started against City's Under 21s.
United needed a penalty shootout to knock out Rochdale after Mason Greenwood's strike was cancelled out by 16-year-old Luke Matheson's leveller.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side went on to score all of their penalties with summer signing Daniel James scoring the decisive spot-kick.
Jimmy Keohane's penalty was saved by Sergio Romero to save Solskjaer's blushes at a frustrated Old Trafford.
