Man United 'eye' EPL star as Ronaldo replacement and other transfer gossip

Manchester United are plotting a sensational attempt to sign Harry Kane, according to reports. The Cristiano Ronaldo saga finally reached its conclusion on Tuesday as the Portugal international left Old Trafford for the second time after agreeing to terminate his contract.

Losing the 37-year-old appeared inevitable after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan but leaves a void in United’s attacking options. Erik ten Hag has played Marcus Rashford through the middle this season but he is not regarded as an out-and-out striker.

Anthony Martial is another who can be described as a hybrid between centre-forward and winger, making the Red Devils’ task straightforward in the transfer market. The rumour mill is already beginning to churn ahead of the January window as United chiefs aim to replace Ronaldo - last season’s top goalscorer.

And now Spanish outlet Fichajes is reporting that Kane is lined up as a potential target. At 29, and with just 18 months left on his current deal, Tottenham Hotspur would need to sell now to optimise his potential transfer fee.

Manchester City failed in an attempt to lure Kane to Eastlands last year, with Daniel Levy’s valuation a reported stumbling block. It is unclear whether those demands have changed as the clock ticks on the Spurs asset’s contract.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail suggests United will be involved in a transfer tug-of-war for England sensation Jude Bellingham. A goal in England’s World Cup opener against Iran has heightened talk over a potential Premier League move.
