Man United fans aim brutal chant at Garnacho on his return to Old Trafford

Alejandro Garnacho was on the receiving end of a hostile reception on his return to Manchester United on Saturday evening.

Garnacho, 21, joined Chelsea for £40million last month after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.

The Argentine endured a difficult relationship with the United boss and was part of the club's 'Bomb Squad' over the summer after Amorim told him to find a new club at the end of last season.

He eventually completed a move to Chelsea and has played twice so far, although he was an unused substitute as the Blues lost 2-1 to his former side on Saturday.

And it wasn't a happy return to Old Trafford for Garnacho, with the 21-year-old targeted by chants before and throughout the clash, while he was also booed.

As Garnacho warmed up ahead of kick off, United fans could be heard singing: 'Who's that t*** from Argentina? Who's that money-grabbing w**re?

'Garnacho is his name and he hasn’t got a brain and he won’t be winning trophies anymore!'

The song continued throughout the first half of the game. It was the same chant that United fans targeted Carlos Tevez with when he swapped United for Manchester City in 2009 in a £47m deal.

Meanwhile, at the end of the match, Garnacho was seen on the pitch with his former team-mates.

This included Amad Diallo, and the pair were deep in conversation before he later briefly greeted Bruno Fernandes.

Garnacho then walked across the pitch solemnly with his hood up and gloves on as he battled to hide himself from the Manchester rain.

In another twist, Garnacho later posed with Diallo on the Ivorian's Instagram story where they had swapped shirts and were smiling.

However, Diallo bizarrely later deleted the post, alongside all of his other posts on the platform.

Garnacho scored 26 goals in 144 games for United after joining from Atletico Madrid as a 16-year-old, but his disciplinary record was often questioned during his time at the club.

Last December, he was axed for the Manchester derby in December for a show of dissent to his head coach during a Europa League tie in Plzen three days’ earlier.

He also infuriated Amorim after the Europa League final when the 21-year-old claimed he was unhappy to be left on the bench for more than 70 minutes - and later said he would weigh up his options.

Garnacho’s brother Roberto also accused Amorim of ‘throwing him under the bus’.

‘Obviously it’s hard for everyone,’ said Garnacho after the game. ‘Our season was s***. We didn’t beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things. When you don’t score goals, you always need more.

‘Until we reached the final, I played every round. And I played 20 minutes today – I don’t know. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next.’

Amorim then subsequently gave Garnacho a brutal dressing down in front of United's squad, with the Portuguese coach allegedly telling the forward: 'You better pray that you can find a club to sign you'.

Saturday's victory was a crucial one for United after a difficult start to the season and they return to action next Saturday when they travel to Brentford.
