Manchester United fans are set to be barred from attending their opening Champions League fixture away to Young Boys because of Covid-19 regulations.
The match at the Stade de Suisse in Bern takes place next Tuesday and could see Cristiano Ronaldo play the first action of his second spell with the club.
On Monday, UEFA announced that travelling supporters would be able to attend European fixtures but only if the home team's city health and government Covid rules permitted them to do so.
But as things stand, Young Boys are insisting that all fans show a Switzerland or EU Covid Vaccination Certificate to enter the stadium in accordance with local rules.
The NHS vaccine pass would not be valid for entry as things stand and as a result Young Boys have not issued a ticket allocation to United, who are still pushing to get one despite the short notice.
There remains confusion, however, because United's many supporters based in Switzerland and other parts of the EU should have the required certificate.
In an email sent to fans, United announced: 'UEFA have confirmed that away fans will be permitted for Group Stage matches.
'However, we have been advised by Young Boys, that all spectators are required to be fully vaccinated, and prove this using a Swiss/EU Covid Vaccination Certificate to enter the stadium.
'Young Boys have advised us that NHS pass is not (at this time) approved by the local Swiss authorities.
'We are pushing for a solution with UEFA and Young Boys, but unfortunately, until such time that this policy is reversed, Young Boys will not allocate us any tickets (for any supporters, including non-UK based).
'We will be in touch with more information as we know it.'
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been drawn against Young Boys, Italian side Atalanta and Spaniards Villarreal in the Champions League group stage.
They last played the Swiss club in the group stage of the same competition in 2018-19, recording a 3-0 win away from home.
The Sun reported that Ronaldo's second United debut may have to wait until the game in Switzerland as the Portuguese star, signed from Juventus, may not be fit enough to feature in this Saturday's Premier League match at home to Newcastle United.
