United made the sharper start and hit the front via a well-taken solo effort from Marcus Rashford before a sumptuous 26th-minute drive from Suso levelled matters.

With the Premier League giants understood to be closing in on a world-record move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof endured a poor outing and needed substitute Jesse Lingard to cancel out his own goal.

This time Rashford beats Donnarumma. He latches on to a ball over the top of the Milan defence down the left flank. Rashford cuts inside to check on to his right foot. The forward bends his effort towards the bottom corner and it finds the net with the aid of a slight deflection. A good start for Solskjaer's men.

Suso bends his effort into the bottom corner to level the scores. De Gea gives the ball away at the back and Milan gather. Borini feeds Suso on the edge of the box and he picks his spot, curling his attempt beyond the reach of his compatriot in the United goal.

SAVE! Suso and Piatek almost combine to put Milan ahead. The Spaniard bends a cross into the box and Piatek runs off the back of Lindelof. The forward gets glancing contact on the ball, but not enough to take it away from De Gea, who produces a fine stop to keep the Italian side at bay.

LINDELOF PUTS THE BALL INTO HIS OWN NET!! 2-1 MILAN! The Italian outfit take the lead as Suso is afforded space and time to cross from the right flank. Castillejo heads towards the target and his effort strikes Lindelof. The deflection wrong foots De Gea, who is rooted to the spot, watching helplessly as the ball travels into the bottom corner.
