Manchester United moved up to seventh in the Premier League thanks to a 3-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
Match Report
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were to the fore once again as Manchester United saw off Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 at Old Trafford to move back into the top half of the Premier League table.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men impressed in Thursday's 3-0 Europa League victory over Partizan Belgrade, which Martial and Rashford both scored in, and the forwards both played crucial roles again as a resilient Brighton were dispatched fairly comfortably.
United looked as though they were going to cruise to victory during the early exchanges, as they found themselves 2-0 up thanks to a couple of fortuitous goals from Andreas Pereira and Davy Propper, who beat his own goalkeeper.
Match Events
17' GOAL! Man Utd 1-0 Brighton (Pereira)
GOOOAL! Pereira makes it 1-0 to United! The attacking midfielder surges forward from deep before Stephens' intervenion helps him pick out Martial on the left-hand side of the box. The forward then bides his time before pulling it back to Pereira on the edge of the area, and he sweeps his effort into the net with a helping hand from Stephens' wicked deflection.
19' OWN GOAL! Man Utd 2-0 Brighton (Propper)
GOAL! An own goal from Propper makes it 2-0 to United! Fred whips a testing delivery into the box which Maguire manages to nod down to McTominay, but Propper pokes the ball into the net from close range before McTominay can reach it. However, there will be a VAR check before the goal is confirmed...
The video referee decides there was no reason to award Brighton a free-kick in the build-up to the goal, and United have their two-goal lead confirmed.
30' Yellow Card! Montoya booked
Montoya is shown Brighton's third yellow card of the match following a poor tackle on Rashford.
58' Yellow Card! Williams booked
Williams is shown a yellow card following a late tackle on Alzate, but there will be a VAR check to assess whether it was a red-card offence.
64' GOAL! Man Utd 2-1 Brighton (Dunk)
GOOOAL! Dunk pulls one back to make it 2-1! Gross whips a corner delivery in from the right-hand side, and Dunk then rises above Maguire just outside the six-yard box to close the gap between the sides.
66' GOAL! Man Utd 3-1 Brighton (Rashford)
GOOOAL! Rashford makes it 3-1 to United! Fred slides a through ball into the path of Martial who is tackled by Dunk, but the striker shows great awareness to pull it back to Rashford who sees his drilled effort crash off the crossbar and into the net.
It looked like the opportunity had gone when Martial was tamed by Dunk when running through on goal, but the striker did really well to keep the attack alive by pulling it back to Rashford who made no mistake.
68' Unbelievable! What a miss from Rashford
SO CLOSE! It's very nearly a third for United as James surges into a pocket of space on the right-hand side of the box before squaring it across to Rashford at the back post, but he pokes his close-range effort wide of the left-hand post. It should really be four for United.
73' CLOSE! Williams' shot saved by Ryan
Martial weighs up his options near the left-hand byline before picking out Williams in the centre, but the defender sees his effort palmed wide by Ryan at the left-hand post.
90' McTominay limps off
McTominay is now down receiving treatment after March caught him off the ball, and he eventually limps off the pitch right at the death.

rashford plays great as a left winger and scores excellent goals. I wish he has more composure and could score the easier tap ins. he missed 2 back to back hat tricks but the boy will learn. am9 is doing great as a no9: holding up play and doing a good target man job when required. and Brandon Williams is a menaces ggmu!

All I know is that Rashy should have scored 3 today but I’m still happy with the win, see you after the international break.......

We played exactly like Our DNA, I am so happy, this is our best performance so far.. Although we could score 7-8 goals easily if we didn't miss those golden chances

Rashford has scored six goals at Old Trafford across all competitions in 2019-20 - only Sergio Agüero (9 at the Etihad) and Mohamed Salah (7 at Anfield) have netted more home goals among Premier League players.
