Man Utd 4-0 Chelsea: Rashford & Pogba crush Lampard debut, Martial & James nets

Manchester United may not have been completely fluent against Chelsea, but they still managed to thrash the Blues 4-0.

Two-goal Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial starred as Manchester United crushed Chelsea 4-0 in Frank Lampard's first Premier League match as the Blues' head coach.

Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had suggested in pre-season Rashford and Martial were set to share striker responsibilities this term and they were the inspiration as United clinched an emphatic opening-day win, albeit one that somewhat flattered them.

Chelsea certainly edged a first half that was arguably more entertaining for its seemingly constant stream of errors than anything else, but United led 1-0 at the break thanks to Rashford's penalty, despite Tammy Abraham and Emerson Palmieri hitting the post for the visitors.

Quality initially remained at a premium in the second half, but two fine goals – one apiece for Rashford and Martial – in the space of 95 seconds after the hour turned United's nervy lead into a comfortable one, with debutant Daniel James completing the scoring late on.

Pogba plays a throughball to Rashford in the box and he turns before firing his shot into the back of the net.

He was well offside when he received the pass though and the linesman's flag went up straight away. 

40' OFF THE POST AGAIN! Emerson almost scores

A bit of confusion between Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka sees the ball bounce to Emerson on the left of the box.

He sets himself before firing his shot towards goal, but can only watch as it bounces off the woodwork.

Maguire dispossesses Abraham on the edge of the box and United quickly move the ball upfield.

Lingard runs it out to the right wing but Pereira puts a good cross back into the box and Martial reaches it ahead of his defender to find the back of the net. 2-0 United!

United close down the ball quickly once again to win it back and Pogba plays a brilliant pass upfield to pick out Rashford.

He's being closely marked but he keeps calm as he slots the ball past Kepa to score.

United counter-attack from a Chelsea corner and it's Pogba that sets up the goal once again.

James is left unmarked on the right of the box and he feints a shot before firing his effort low into the far bottom corner.
