Manchester United coach Mark Dempsey returned to watch first team training on Sunday.

The popular 55-year-old has been on a period of sick leave since being taken to hospital in Perth in July a few days into the club's pre-season tour of Australia.

Dempsey was treated at the Royal Perth Hospital after falling ill and, once discharged, skipped the Singapore and Shanghai legs of the tour to return home to England.

He has since been in at Carrington to speak to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and hopes to resume his role soon.

The Norwegian had worked alongside Dempsey during his time at Molde and Cardiff before reuniting with the former United player at Old Trafford.

Australian news channel 9 News had reported in the summer that a male in his 50s was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital from the Crown Towers hotel, where the United squad were based. It was later confirmed that it was Dempsey.

Dempsey was seen arriving at the hospital under heavy security in footage from 7 News, and his face had been hidden behind a sheet as he was wheeled in.

United, meanwhile, have added former Watford coach Martin Perch to their backroom staff and confirmed the departure of David de Gea's goalkeeping coach and long-time mentor Emilio Alvarez.
