Manchester United are rightfully being criticised from all angles following their abysmal draw with already relegated Huddersfield on Sunday.
The Red Devils knew they had to win in order to still be in with a shout of claiming a Champions League spot but they put in an abject display to see their chances of a top four finish diminish.
United now face yet another crucial summer where they have to get it right in terms of incomings and outgoings.
Get it wrong again and their supporters may have to cancel their plans on Thursday nights than longer than they think.
Here, Sportsmail assesses what has gone wrong since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Manchester United have the fourth highest wage bill in the whole of Europe with only Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City spending more.
The club have handed out large salaries to high-profile players in order to get deals over the line during the last few seasons. Alexis Sanchez's astonishing £500,000-a-week wage is a prime example of this as United felt the need to offer him a salary which rivals City would refuse to match.
The club may have to do the same to convince the world's best players to give up a season in the Champions League.
They will save some money next season as the current squad will see their wages slashed by 25 per cent following their failure to qualify for Europe's elite competition.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may need to sell some of his stars before bringing fresh blood in with Sanchez (£500,000-a-week), Romelu Lukaku (£200,000-a-week) and Paul Pogba (£290,000) among those linked with a move away.
Sanchez's mega deal created tension in the Old Trafford dressing room with several players in talks with the club over contract extensions. Ander Herrera and Juan Mata both look set to leave for free as they have failed to agree new terms.
Manchester United are so desperate to get rid of Sanchez that they are willing to pay £13million just to get him off their books.
He should be the first one out the door with the Chilean scoring just five Premier League goals in 45 games. An embarrassing return for a player of his calibre.
Pogba has flirted with a move to Real Madrid since Zinedine Zidane returned to the Spanish capital in March and his side's failure to reach the Champions League may have pushed him closer to the exit door.
Lukaku is another player who appears to want out with the Belgian talking up a move to Italy in recent months. As mentioned above, Mata and Herrera can leave for free while fellow Spaniard David de Gea has just one more year left on his deal.
Solskjaer also has to move on several fringe players with Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly expected to leave. Club captain Antonio Valencia will depart after United's final game of the season against Cardiff at the weekend.
Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Ashley Young are still getting regular game-time at Manchester United in 2019.
United will not win a league title with Young as their first choice right back. He's tried his best to fill a gap but the club need to address the problem this summer.
Jose Mourinho said Diogo Dalot was the 'best full back of his generation' but he hasn't been given a consistent run of his games while Luke Shaw has been one of United's standout performers despite still making huge errors leading to goals.
Mourinho was unhappy before the season had even kicked off because Ed Woodward failed to buy a new centre back. Solskjaer needs to strengthen at the heart of his defence following a season in which United have conceded the most amount of goals in their Premier League history (52 with one game left to play).
Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld are among those being considered by United with a new recruit likely to partner Victor Lindelof at the back next season.
Marcus Rashford has failed to live up to expectations this season despite Solskjaer moving him to his favoured No 9 role.
Rashford has scored 13 goals this season while Lukaku has netted 15. Manchester United need a striker who will score 30 goals a season if they are to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
The fact that Pogba is their top scorer with 16, despite being their first choice penalty taker, highlights the need for a new forward to lead the line.
Anthony Martial has had a topsy-turvy campaign as he still struggles for consistency while Jesse Lingard is another player who is not clinical in front of goal.
Solskjaer may use Lukaku as bait to land a new marksman with Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala said to be on United's summer wish-list.
With the Glazer family based in America, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is the man in control of running the club but he needs help.
United do not have the structure in place to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool off the pitch.
Rio Ferdinand is among those being considered to join the club as a technical director but it remains to be seen if he has the nous to lead Manchester United back to the top.
Current assistant manager Mike Phelan has also been linked with the vacancy and Solskjaer appears to be keen on his No 2 becoming a buffer between himself and Woodward.

Mediocrity United.Abyssmal form.No planning.A make shift rightback and 34 old captain. The list goes on.The board being managed by non football brains. Is Ole the right man! Woodward the odd man out.Greedy mercenary players who are above all underperforming. Seems that the ship is wrecking just like the aftermath of Sir Matt Busby.Alas no one could oversee the days after Sir Alex years. Mediocrity Utd what a shame .

We’re turning into AC Milan...Wouldn’t be surprised to see new owners soon...actually praying for new owners...but it surely doesn’t mean it’s going to be good take Milan for example. Let’s hope everything goes well with the future of this club. Win or lose. United till I die.

It all started when that fool Ed Woodward was appointed as the club's CEO, he's a businessman and only focuses on the financial aspects of the club, he is not a football person that's the problem.... The second part was when Moyes was appointed as manager, we all thought it was going to be successful looking at what he did to Everton but he immediately removed Sir Alex's backroom staff and that caused the downfall of the club, very soon he was sacked and LVG was appointed manager but dull, boring football and 0-0 draws were not what we wanted so he also went Then came Mourinho who led us to 3 trophies but his 3rd season curse struck again where he would end up sh*t and falling out with many key players

I blame Ed Woodward who has focused so much on the financial aspect of the club's running. Don't get me wrong. He has made millions for the club but has also thrown those cash out of the window by signing overrated players and paying them huge salaries. There's no one in this present Manchester United team that deserves to earn more than 200k a week wage. Focus on the youth system, promote them, add 1 or 2 mew signings that ain't overrated like the ones United floated with now and watch it click like magic. But they must have to sell Pogba, Matic, Young, Valencia, Jones, Lukaku & Sanchez. (Imagine how much these players are costing united). SAF would hardly improve your contract if you don't prove yourself for 3 season consecutively. United should get their acts together or else they will continue to loose their status as a big club which many already believe they longer bear such status.

Sanchez, Pogba and Lukaku need to go I swear the whole problem would be solved cause only these 3 earn abnormally high wages of above £200,000 which disrupts the whole team
