Man Utd 'in talks to sign new set-piece coach' who once worked for 3 EPL rivals

Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign a new set piece coach as the club's coaching overhaul continues.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos group assumed control of football operations at United earlier this year and immediately set about a seismic restructure the club's backroom staff.

Dan Ashworth was appointed sporting director after a protracted saga involving a compensation agreement with his former club Newcastle.

Meanwhile Omar Berrada was brought in to serve as the club's CEO, with the ex-Manchester City chief credited with helping secure their recent deal to sign Leny Yoro from Lille.

Arriving from Southampton, Jason Wilcox has assumed the position of technical director, and, according to reports from Sweden, has set about bringing a former colleague to United to serve as part of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff.

Sportbladet claim that United are currently engaged in discussions to bring Andreas Georgson to Old Trafford to work as a set piece coach.

Georgson is currently the manager of top flight Norwegian side Lillestrom, but has previously held coaching roles at Brentford, Arsenal, and Southampton, where he worked alongside Wilcox.

United ranked 15th in the Premier League for set piece goals last season, accounting for just nine of their 59 goals as they slumped to a worst-ever finish of eighth.

However, despite their lowly league finish, Ten Hag once again led his side to glory in a domestic cup, with their win over City in the FA Cup ensuring they did not miss out on European football.

The Dutchman's position appeared to be in peril heading into the coming campaign, however after crisis talks in Ibiza Ten Hag agreed an extension to his contract which will now see him through until the end of the 2025-26 season.

United have recently embarked on a pre-season tour of the US where they will play three friendlies against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool.

While the team jetted off to continue their preparations, a number of club staff have been left sweating over their future at the club as Ineos' cost-cutting measures continue.

Employees were informed in a series of meetings on Tuesday which departments and individuals are under threat as part of a redundancy process that will result in up to 250 job cuts.

It’s understood that members of staff who are no longer going on tour because they are in danger of losing their jobs were given the news last week.
