A MANCHESTER UNITED legend's son has been starring for Brighton's Under-21s.

The teenager is following in his dad's footsteps as he plays in the same position - and even wears the same NUMBER.

The centre-back,17, was spotted playing for the Seagulls in the Sussex Transport Senior Cup against Isthmian South East side Hassocks.

He put in a solid showing as his side kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win with Younes Ibrahim's goal the difference.

It was said that he "moved and sounded" just like his dad while on the pitch.

The defender also showed his ability on the ball as he fired off a few diagonal long balls to the right wing with his left foot.

But can you tell who the player is the son of?

It is, of course, Rio Ferdinand's son Tate.

Tate Ferdinand, like his dad wore the No5 jersey and commanded the backline like his six-time Premier League title-winning father.

Video from the match showed him keeping his position in the defence as well as powering forward before playing a forward pass.

He joined the Brighton academy in 2024 and has made six appearances in the Under-18 Premier League this season.

Seagulls' Under-18s head coach Bjorn Hamberg has insisted that the starlet is not letting the extra attention that his famous name brings get to him.

He said via The Argus: "I am sure he doesn’t care about that (attention).

“Tate Ferdinand is Tate Ferdinand and he needs to be play his game and have his pathway and career.

“For us as a team, for the under-18s as a captain, he is a big voice in our dressing room.

“He is obviously a leader in the back line and playing very well for the moment.

“I am really pleased for him as well.”

Tate is not the only one of Rio's sons who is emerging on the South Coast.

Lorenz Ferdinand, 19, is a goalkeeper who is also coming through the ranks at the Seagulls.

He signed his first pro deal with the Premier League outfit earlier this year.

Ferdinand Sr enjoyed an incredibly successful career at the top level of football in England.

He came through the ranks at West Ham and earned two British record moves to Leeds United and then the Red Devils.

He starred for Sir Alex Ferguson during his 12-year stint at Old Trafford.

As well as his Prem titles, he was also part of the sides that lifted the League Cup twice and the Champions League.
