Man Utd made Lukaku transfer decision after bust-up in pre-season tour

Manchester United decided to sell Romelu Lukaku after the striker had a huge row with assistant manager Mike Phelan during the club's pre-season tour.

Lukaku finally completed his big-money switch to Inter Milan on Thursday after weeks of pushing for a Manchester United exit.

And The Sun has claimed that the big Belgian's United fate was sealed after he angered club bosses for missing a bus.

Before United stars travelled from their team hotel in Shanghai to the Hongkou Stadium where they were due to play Tottenham , extra vigilant security did a head count.

All the players were present but Lukaku was absent when a second check was done on the bus, and he had to make his own way to the stadium.

The striker was reportedly fuming when he eventually arrived for the game, before Phelan made him aware that it was his decision to leave Lukaku at the hotel.

The publication also claimed that Phelan launched a rant at the former Everton star and questioned his professionalism.

Despite going on the pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, knocks prevented the striker from appearing in any of United's four friendly matches.

Lukaku also missed the matches against Kristiansund and AC Milan upon their return to Europe.

The striker, who scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for United, has signed a contract until 2024 at San Siro.

It is just two years since the Belgium striker turned down a move to Antonio Conte's Chelsea to leave Everton for Old Trafford in a deal worth an initial £75million.
