Manchester United secure a morale-boosting late win over Fulham on Saturday in the Premier League but they now must back that up with further victories.
That starts tonight with a crucial trip to Copenhagen in their Champions League group stage. The Red Devils secured a dramatic home win over the Danish champions last time out thanks to a Harry Maguire headed winner and last-gasp Andre Onana penalty save.
That gave Erik ten Hag’s a much-needed shot in the arm ahead of their trip to Denmark and they now sit just one point off second-placed Galatasaray in the group. The fixtures come thick and fast, with a home clash against Luton in the Premier League this weekend. Here are the biggest stories from the red half of Manchester for Wednesday.
Ten Hag receives double boost
Marcus Rashford and Victor Lindelof are back in full training for United ahead of tonight’s clash in Copenhagen – after the pair sat out the weekend win at Fulham.
Rashford was unable to recover in time for the clash at Craven Cottage, following a heavy knock in training, while Lindelof also missed the Fulham game, after being struck down by illness. That game saw Aaron Wan-Bissaka returned to the side as United’s mass absentee list begins to ease slightly.
Sheikh Jassim’s takeover stance
Sheikh Jassim has no intention of reactivating his interest in buying Manchester United – although he bears no ill will to the club.
The Qatari businessman withdrew from the race to take over United last month, leaving the path clear for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to become a minority investor in the club, as he closes in on a 25 percent purchase of the Red Devils in a £1.4billion deal.
Sheikh Jassim, for his part, is frustrated that his 10-month long pursuit of the club ended in failure, as he invested £millions in structuring his bid – including legal costs. However, he is still a fan of the club and has no interest in personally investing in others.
Garnacho avoids FA charge
Alejandro Garnacho has avoided being charged by the FA for a controversial tweet celebrating goalkeeper Andre Onana’s penalty save against Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Garnacho posted an image of his teammate along with his teammates following the moment alongside two gorilla emojis. Campaign groups have claimed the post was deeply offensive. However, Onana said afterwards that "people cannot choose what I should be offended by. I know exactly what [Alejandro Garnacho] meant: power and strength. This matter should go no further."
The Argentine subsequently deleted his post and the FA will take no further disciplinary action, having asked the player for his observations on the incident.

United season should start today. Let today marks the beginning of a new season. Copenhagen gave us a run for our money last time out. Today would be even more tougher. We must therefore be fully prepared and throw everything at them.

hopefully it's actually moral boosting this time 😑 the last time we had our "moral boosting" win we ended up losing to both Man City and Newcastle at home.
