Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement over the signing of Spanish wonderkid Mateo Mejia for a €150k (£130k) fee.

Meija, 16, emerged on United's radar having scored a remarkable 60 goals for Real Zaragoza's youth side last season.

According to local Spanish newspaper El Periodico de Aragon , Meija is already a Manchester United player, arriving at Carrington in July and becoming the youngster player in their Under 18s group.

The club have also reached an agreement over a fee which removes the need for UEFA involvement to decide on the exact amount to be paid by the Red Devils for the teenager.

Real Zaragoza were forced to release a statement towards the end of June denying Mejia had joined Manchester United, but they were unable to keep hold of their prized asset.

Given he did not have a professional contract due to his age, Mejia was free to move outside of Spain without the need to negotiate a fee.

Real Madrid were said to be interested but had a €500k offer rejected, whereas United knew they could rely on a UEFA tribunal to decide the fee if he left Spain, with an estimate at around €120-150k.

Mejia reportedly joined up with the Red Devils back on July 1, started training with his new club after penning scholarship terms.

UEFA registration reportedly passed in mid-August, making him available for official competitions although an ankle injury has so far prevented him from featuring.
