Borussia Dortmund's advance to the final four of this season's Champions League is an unexpected boost to Manchester United's FFP situation.
The German side progressed to the semi-finals after defeating Atletico Madrid 5-4 on aggregate on Tuesday night, and now face PSG for a place in the final at Wembley.
However, it is also good news for the financial situation at Man United, and new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as the club will receive a hefty knock-on bonus as a result of Dortmund's good fortune.
A source for Manchester United told the Manchester Evening News that a 'significant' bonus has been activated with Dortmund's appearance in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Dortmund paid €3.5m (£3m) up-front to take Jadon Sancho on loan in January, with a potential €4m (£3.4m) in additional add-ons, some of which have been triggered by their European run.
It all benefits Man United's position regarding financial fair play rules and the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules which have become major discussion points in recent months.
There could be more to come Man United's way too, if Dortmund can get past PSG over two legs in the coming weeks and reach the European showpiece at Wembley on June 1.
Sancho joined Man United for £73million in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund, but made a temporary return in the January transfer window until the end of the campaign.
Since Sancho returned to his old German club, the 24-year-old has started all four of their Champions League knockout games, as they have defeated PSV Eindhoven and then Atletico Madrid to reach this stage.
Sancho's loan to Dortmund ends on June 30, and the club have no option to make a permanent move.
It is expected that Man United will sell Sancho in the summer, after his public falling out with Erik ten Hag earlier in the season.
After Tuesday's win, Rio Ferdinand insisted that Sancho 'would not have seen' his spot in a Champions League semi-finals coming.
'We asked for Sancho to put in a performance, Ferdinand began. 'A lot to prove and he's showing it.
'He's left Manchester United under a cloud, he's now in a Champions League semi-final against PSG. Who could have written that script? He wouldn't have seen that coming.'
Chelsea's Ian Maatsen is also on loan at Borussia Dortmund this season, and has expressed his desire to remain with the club after a successful short-term stint in Germany.

Garnacho has nothing to prove to ETH, he has been fantastic ever since he wore the United Shirt even ETH knows that United has improved bcz of Garnacho. So comparing Sancho situations with Garnacho situations under 10 Hag it's madness. ETH knows Sancho from afar while he knows Garnacho in and out bcz he's the one who promoted him bcz of the quality he saw. While Sancho performs well away from home than at home where he's owned [ko]
you are missing the point, this players are doing well outside the club,

the worst is that Sancho can revive his euro sport with England, while garnacho is bracing up for a UFC fight with eth,

All the same, Man UTD is still on the loosing end. You bought a player of £73m and loan him to the same team only to collect £3m fee while you still pay his salary. If Dutmond is to buy him back I know they have the power to negotiate. They may negotiate between 30---£35m.
