Manchester United's share price increased by nearly six per cent after Jose Mourinho was sacked as the club's manager.
The Portuguese's two-and-a-half-year reign came to an end on Tuesday morning, and share prices in Manchester United plc rose on the New York Stock Exchange later on in the day.
After closing at 17.30 US dollars (£13.65) on Monday, the share price steadily increased to 18.39 (£14.51).
The value of the shares have fluctuated during United's troubled campaign on the pitch, which sees the club sit sixth in the Premier League, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool.
It peaked at 27.20 dollars (£21.47) on August 27, but fell 22 per cent to 21.12 (£16.67) by October 1.
United's run of four games unbeaten in the league - from a 3-2 win over Newcastle to a 2-1 win against Bournemouth on November 3 - saw the share price rise before a further decline to a low of 17.25 dollars (£13.64) last week.

Manage a Porto or Ajax hard pass. Haha! Nearly choked on my dinner when I read that. The Mourinho fanboys really still think every other club in the club will be desperate to have him even after all this. I knew him losing his job would make him a more sympathetic figure but this is ridiculous. Our leadership is going senile and current coach isn't doing great. I'm gonna live in fear from now on going forward. Hoeneß vs Mourinho would be the greatest match up in footballing history. oh god yes please

i dont think there are any mourinho fan boys. but men who know who mourinho is and didn't start watching football 4 years ago. he has accomplished somethings that no one else has. he is a top top quality coach. but united and him just didn't get on.

Why did you buy United stocks It went up, I sold them when it dipped, I made money and got rid. Gave him an extra reason to hate Mourinho.

I bet Man United will go on a winning streah now scoring tons of goals. This was like doping for their players

That wasnt why they waited. I think that 18m or whatever it was is just what remained of his salary, so they still would have had to pay it. Also, they dont care about 18m, they are the richest club in the world, they had other reasons to wait.

Exactly but maybe not Milan. No teams with big expectations or fan pressure. Somewhere where he can take his time and build smth. Any team that signs mourinho will definitely have high expectation regardless of their current position. He is not going to accept something like 75% reduction in his salary. So if any team mentioned by OC signs him, he will be their highest paid employee.

I'm not arguing with his first Chelsea team and his Inter side. Back then Mourinho was the best defensive coach in the world However, how do you explain the massive dropoff? Just like with Wenger, football evolves and after a while a coach becomes outdated. And you know the saying "can't learn an old dog new tricks"

I didn't say money did, but to say Mourinho will be depressed because he has to stay in a hotel room is ludicrous. he's said before he's perfectly happy in there and chose to do it himself
