Manchester United have been one of the busiest Premier League sides in the summer transfer window so far.
Having signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.million and Leny Yoro from Lille for £58m, Erik ten Hag’s side are now moving onto other targets. United may need to offload some unwanted players before landing another big-money arrival, but the groundwork is still being done.
A central midfielder is a priority now, yet work is still going on in the background for a right-back, left-back and centre-back, while another striker hasn’t been ruled out either. Bayern Munich has become a focus for United chiefs, with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui – two players well known to Ten Hag from Ajax – in the crosshairs.
Here Mirror Football brings you all the latest from United and their attempts to bolster the ranks before the 2024/25 season.
Ten Hag has admitted he is keen to sign De Ligt, who played under his management at Ajax and has been made available by Bayern. Personal terms have been agreed with the Dutch defender, but there has been a hold-up.
De Ligt is 'growing increasingly agitated', according to HITC, as the two clubs haggle over a fee for his services. It was reported by Bild earlier this week that United had seen a bid worth €35m (£29.4m) rejected, wanting €50m (£42m) for their player.
With the deal having failed to make much progress, De Ligt has reportedly made it 'abundantly clear' to Bayern bosses that he wants to move to United. That is unlikely to persuade the German giants to lower their asking price, although the need to get funds in to finance other deals may prove more decisive.
De Ligt isn’t the only former Ajax player on Bayern Munich’s books that United want to sign. Mazraoui is another that Ten Hag could add as a potential replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is being courted by West Ham.
As well as that, The Times says that Mazraoui has emerged as a transfer target for United partly because Ten Hag believes that the right-back would help to unlock Antony's true potential. The two of them played together on the right flank for Ajax.
The 26-year-old is valued at between £17m and £21m, although United would need to raise funds through player sales before making a move for the highly-rated Morocco international.
The ongoing injury struggles of Tyrell Malacia have prompted United to look for other options at left-back. Mirror Football understands that Feyenoord’s David Hancko and former Chelsea star Marcos Alonso and Crystal Palace ’s Tyrick Mitchell are among the players being looked at.
Malacia is still trying to recover full fitness, having been out for 14 months, while Luke Shaw only managed 14 matches in total last season. United signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham last season, but he only lasted until January.

I'm sick n tired of Ajax this n Ajax that n ETH. He don't realise that he's in the premier league n not the Dutch league. These players won't bring glory to United as they R all failures. And the clubs that R releasing them know that to get good money for them is no club better than Manchester United.

Under Erik ten Hag this season, there’s very little Manchester United team can be as it was before this called Manchester United Coach Erik et hag was given the job for a Coach. I suggest that Manchester United Management should look 👀 for another Coach.
