Manchester United plan to sign a left-winger this summer as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of a return to the Champions League
Manchester United have placed Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye on their shortlist as they consider their options for recruiting a left-winger during the summer transfer window. United have not yet made a formal approach for the 26-year-old Senegal international, but he is being tracked at Old Trafford during what is anticipated to be a hectic few months.
The urgency to secure a left-winger isn't quite as pressing as it was six months ago, with Patrick Dorgu's development in that role and Matheus Cunha's displays there providing Michael Carrick with alternatives, but it remains an area under consideration during the window.
United had shown some interest in RB Leipzig's 19-year-old Yan Diomande earlier this year, but Liverpool are now frontrunners in the pursuit of the Ivory Coast international, on whom the Bundesliga side have placed an £86million price tag.
Morgan Rogers is another player catching the eye at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old can operate from the left and could also be viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes in the No.10 position.
Aston Villa may look to capitalise on Rogers this summer as they seek to fund a restructure, but United would encounter stiff competition for the England international, with most of the Premier League's heavyweights monitoring his circumstances, alongside several European powerhouses.
Ndiaye could represent a more affordable option than those two, and United will need to balance the books if they are to bring in a winger. He featured on both flanks for the Toffees last season and can also fill in as a No.10, enhancing the attacking versatility United already possess under Carrick.
Everton maintain they are not in a situation where they must sell, and Ndiaye still has three years remaining on his contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, having signed a five-year deal when arriving at the club two years ago.
However, there have been claims that the fans' favourite has rejected proposals for a new contract, and this summer could present the ideal opportunity for Everton to secure a substantial profit on the £15million they paid Marseille for Ndiaye two years ago. He has netted 17 goals and provided three assists in 71 appearances for the club.
United have other pressing matters in the transfer window, with at least one and potentially two midfielders to follow Ederson, who has agreed terms to join from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £38.3million.
A left-back is also required, with Tyrell Malacia departing the club on a free transfer. Luke Shaw featured in every Premier League fixture last season, but will face a stiffer challenge when the fixture list intensifies next term.
United have seen a number of left-wingers head for the exit door of late, with Antony departing in 2025 and Jadon Sancho moving on this summer, while the club are also eager to shift Marcus Rashford's £325,000-a-week wages from their payroll. There is virtually no prospect of the 28-year-old being brought back into the fold under Carrick.
The likelihood of a third midfielder arriving will depend on whether Manuel Ugarte can be moved on, with Joshua Zirkzee also potentially heading out of the door. United are weighing up their attacking options, with one avenue being the pursuit of a more seasoned striker to provide back-up to Benjamin Sesko.
Bringing in another versatile forward in the mould of Ndiaye could equally be on the cards, with both Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo capable of operating through the centre.
