Manchester City stunned but spared FA Cup shock at Cheltenham

Manchester City survived a scare to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over Cheltenham Town at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.

A resilient performance from the fourth-tier hosts saw them go into the break level on terms with their lofty opponents, with Ben Tozer's goalline clearance from Benjamin Mendy's shot their highlight of the first half.

In a quite extraordinary turn of events, Michael Duff's side took the lead in the second half when Alfie May latched on to a long throw and smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Pep Guardiola looked to his bench for inspiration, bringing on the likes of Ruben Dias, Ilkay Gundogan and Joao Cancelo.

It was Phil Foden who helped change the game, though, with his equaliser sparking a comeback in the closing stages.

Gabriel Jesus added a second goal moments later as City hit the front, before Cancelo set up Ferran Torres to score a third in stoppage time.

Manchester City's opponents in the next round will be Swansea City, who beat Nottingham Forest 5-1 at the Liberty Stadium earlier on Saturday.
